Each product in VendSoft must be assigned to a product type.
Overview
VendSoft includes four predefined product types:
Beverage
Food
Hot Drink
Ingredient
You can create additional product types as needed.
Why Use Product Types
Product types are used to:
Group products in reports
(e.g., Sales by Product, Inventory Valuation)
Define tax applicability
Specify which taxes apply to specific products
This mapping can be configured on:
Product Types screen
Tax Types screen
Product Types Grid
The grid displays all available product types by name.
Create a Product Type
To create a new product type:
Click Create Product Type
Enter:
Name (Required) — descriptive name (e.g., Juice, Water, Chips, Candy)
Assign Taxes
In the Taxes section:
The system displays all existing Tax Types
Use checkboxes to assign applicable taxes
You can select one, multiple, or none
If No Tax Types Exist
If no tax types have been defined:
Save the product type
Go to the Tax Types screen
Create tax types
Map them to the appropriate product types
